Welcome to Black Amethyst Boutique, where you’ll find one-of-a-kind jewelry and apparel designed by local artist Joanna Coblentz Taylor.
Joanna’s work is truly something special. Her designs have been featured in fashion magazines, local papers, and on runways throughout the Tampa Bay area. In 2015, she even won the Best of the Bay award for her incredible mixed media jewelry.
She doesn’t stop at jewelry—Joanna is also a pro at custom fabric dyeing, creating couture men’s apparel, and even wardrobe styling. Her designs range from amethyst crystal and Native American-inspired pieces to handmade leather neckties, blending sophisticated style with a rocker edge. Every piece she creates is bold, unique, and packed with personality.

We were in town from Michigan, reached out totally last minute, wanting to get matching tattoo’s (3of us) for our daughter’s 18th birthday. They responded right away! I can't say enough nice things about this place! Luckily they got me in on a previous cancelation. This was my third tattoo but by far the most work. Jay is a super nice guy who you can talk to about anything. He literally was my psychologist for 2 hours (sorry). Very personable. I felt very comfortable. SUPER clean, clear after care directions (also on website), and felt like I was with a friend. INFINITY STARS!

I highly recommend Black Amethyst Tattoo Gallery! I have been getting tattooed here for years by J. Michael. He’s done all my work and I refuse to go anywhere else. J. Michael’s line work, shading, and drawings are like none other. He takes his time to ensure straight lines and perfection. J. Michael is a color expert and always makes the design pop. This shop is very professional and personable, not to mention clean and well designed. If you’re looking for top notch work, I suggest you go to Black Amethyst. They are worth every penny!

I was recommended to the owner by a teammate of mine that had done a lot of previous work for him. I am very particular about who tattoos me so when doing the research for this place I reviewed everything. After consulting with J Michael I felt I was able to communicate my ideas and he was able to put his own take on them while staying true to the concept. A month after the consultation I came in to see what he drew up for my leg piece (which was a tribute piece for my deceased cousin). I was absolutely blown away with J Michael's design and couldn't wait for him to start the tattoo process.
Within two sessions he created this amazing piece on my leg that not only looks great amongst my other tattoos but pays great tribute to my cousin. It was absolutely worth the price and I'm still just in awe of what he has done. I will definitely be telling my teammates and friends this is a worthy artist to go to in the Tampa Bay area.
Additionally I will say my communication with the shop was very efficient. They gave great direction, informed me of aftercare and made me really excited to book more appointments with Black Amethyst Tattoo Gallery.

Great atmosphere. J is a total professional. I've sat with him for at least 30 hours. He is delicate and dedicated to making your expression a reality. His color is incredibly vibrant! I've had people for years ask if recently had the color done. It always looks fresh!

This is a great shop if you’re looking for a skilled artist to do custom work. I was lucky enough to work with Dimitri to come up with a sleeve design and I couldn’t be happier.
